Opor Benggala

I actually don't know if this dish is Indonesian or Indian. I got the recipe from an Indonesian cook book entitled 1010 Resep Asli Indonesia (Indonesian Original Recipe) - Gramedia 2008. In the original recipe, the chicken is cut into possibly-plaine figure, but as usual, i don't follow the original recipe. My guess is that this salver is (or was) famous in Medan or other part of Sumatera, where there, the precense of Indian/arab culture is stronger than in Java.

Talking about Indian..we went seeing the movie Slumdog Millionaire yesterday. A nice movie full of emotions, so glad that i watched it with my husband on valentine's day (yeah, watching a disturbing romantic movie like Slumdog...is one of many ways to celebrate it!) Happy valentine's day anyway :)

Ingredients:
  • 2 chicken thighs
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 tsp ghee

spices:
  • 3 big shallots, sliced
  • 2 garlics, sliced
  • 1 tsp nutmeg powder
  • lemon juice from ½ lemon (i used kaffir lime as i was running out of lemon)

  1. Wash the chicken.Heat the ghee in the pan.
  2. Saut the shallots, garlic and add the remaining spices. .
  3. Add the chicken, stir well then add milk.
  4. Cook until the chicken is ready and the sauce is thick (you can always add the milk according to your favour).
