Surimi Sticks in Curry

A couple of days ago, i had the urge to eat laksa, but wanting it to be different, and without the noodles since i don't have the rice vermicelli. Laksa is quite typical South East Asian dish; each country has its own version of Laksa, a type of curry rice-noodles, thus i guess it should not be called laksa anymore if it is without the rice noodles (too bad i don't have that vermicelli, the taste of it in the curry is so kicking!).

I used Surimi sticks, cut in rounds, as the meat ingredient, and i also added small shrimps in it.

Basically, the main ingredients are:
  • 250 ml coconut milk
  • 2 Indonesian bay leaves
  • 2 kaffir lime
  • 1 lemon grass stalk, crushed
  • 1 tbs oil
  • 2 tbs small shrimps
  • 10 surimi sticks, cut in rounds
Ground spices:
  • 1/2 tps fenel
  • 1 tps shrimp paste
  • big pinch of tamarind
  • 1 tps galange
  • 1 tsp cilantro powder
  • 1 tps chilies
  • 1 sdt salt
  • 2 sdt sugar
  • 4 shalots
  • 1/2 tps cumin powder
  • 1 tps ginger powder
  • 1 tps curcuma powder

Other ingredients:
  • Basil leaves
  • bean sprouts
  • fried shalots
  • lemon juice
Methods:
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Put the ground spices until brown, add the shrimps.
  2. Put the rest of the ingredients, boil till ready, take out from fire.
  3. Serve with "other ingredients".
